About Our Chapter

NWGA SORBA was officially started in 2005, but like most chapters, we began long before then doing trail work and ad-hoc group rides. Dalton Ga was an industrial town where bikers had to travel to reach a mountain bike trail. We now have 3 mountain bike trail systems and the multiuse long distance Georgia Pinhoti, all reachable within 30 minutes.

This chapter has played a significant role in developing a successful mountain bike program at the Boys and Girls Club in Dalton and has donated more than $25,000 to support this program. This partnership was the first of many to develop between Boys and Girls Clubs of America and their local SORBA chapters.

NWGA SORBA started the Snake Creek Gap Time Trials in 2005 which continues to be a successful fundraiser for the club and assisted in making Dalton, GA a national mountain bike destination. All the funds from this event go directly back into trail building, maintenance and advocacy efforts.

Our Mission:

To organize, promote trail preservation and development, advocate for our sport, and to have fun and fellowship for all mountain bikers.

IMBA and SORBA

In 1988 the International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA) was founded by a group of California mountain bike clubs concerned about the closure of trails to cyclists. Since then, their mission has been to protect, create, and enhance quality trail experiences for mountain bikers worldwide. IMBA has members in all 50 states and 40 countries and is made up of more than 700 bicycle clubs, NWGA SORBA being one of them.

Through partnership with IMBA, SORBA assists regional chapters like NWGA SORBA in working with land managers in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee to create trails and trail systems for mountain bikers and other users to enjoy.

Through advocacy, education, and recreational opportunities, SORBA carries out its mission to promote land access, trail preservation, and new trail development in order to enhance mountain bike touring, racing, fun, and fellowship for all mountain bicyclists in the southeastern United States.
